Abaca is a natural fiber grown by sustainable means, derived from the leaves of a banana plant. It is often refered to as "manila hemp", due to the natural plant origins and that is is grown principly in the Philippines. It is the strongest mnatural fiber in existence. It can be made into coarse or fine fiber products. Although it is grown in other tropical regions, it's origin is in the Philippines and the Philippines is still the principle country where it is grown.

Uses of abaca with which you may be familiar are for tea bags, and excellent rope. Prior to the introduction of synthetic rope, "Manila" rope was used by the navies of the world, including the British and the United States navies.

Abaca is known for it's strength, durability, and resistance to salt water. Abaca can be made into coarse or fine cloth. It can be used in it's natural color or it takes dyes very well.

We have chosen to highlight abaca products because it is grown, processed into cloth, and made into our products, all in the Philippines. Hence, each step of the production of our fine products furthers our goal of developing commercial infrastructure in the central Philippines.
